Ray Gideon Obituary

Forever In Our Hearts…

Ray Willis Gideon

March 19, 1933 – September 15, 2018

Ray was born on March 19, 1933 in Edson, Alberta. He was the second son to Clyde and Doris Gideon. Shortly after Ray’s birth, his dad passed away and he was lovingly raised by his stepfather Dewey Miller.

On March 15, 1955 he married the love of his life Violet Petty and they moved onto the land where they would quickly start their family and soon be blessed with the births of their children; Wayne, Terry, Linda and Nola.  They continued to fill the following 63 years raising their family and fulfilling their lives on that very same acreage. In 1962, Ray started Gideon Contractors Ltd.  He worked hard every day to provide a good life for his family, and instilled forever learned lessons, memories, and morals to anyone who was fortunate enough to have met such an outspoken personality.  Ray had many passions and pastimes and in between hands of crib he would fill his time travelling, gardening, fishing, hunting, trapping, jet boating and camping. Though these hobbies kept him busy he always found time for pranking his family and friends, teasing waitresses and of course razzing all the little kids.

After his last few weeks of being comforted at home, while being surrounded by his loving wife Violet, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; Ray peacefully passed away on September 15, 2018.

Ray was sadly predeceased by his daughter Linda in June 2018, his Mother Doris, Father Clyde, Stepfather Dewey, Brothers Colin and Harold, and Sister Dorothy.

He will fondly be remembered by his wife Violet, son Wayne (daughter-in-law Debbie) daughters Terry and Nola, Son-in-law Dale Larson, 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, numerous extended family members, and countless friends.

A Memorial Service will take place at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, September 21, 2018 at the Royal Canadian Legion in Edson, Alberta.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to the Cross Cancer Clinic in care of Foothills Memorial Chapel – Edson Funeral Home (5040 6th Avenue Edson, Alberta T7E 1T8.)
