Mrs. Margaret Gertrude Hird
June 22, 1926 ~ July 14, 2018
Mrs. Margaret Gertrude Hird, a long-time resident of Edson, once again joined hands with her beloved husband Bob on July 14, 2018 at the age of 92 years. Margaret moved to Edson with Bob in 1949 just shortly after getting married. The couple were eventually able to buy the Rasmussen farm just West of Edson in 1960 where they lived for many years. Margaret and Bob had three wonderful children but Margaret was “Mom” to so many more! Margaret felt that it was important to be a part of her community, and did so through a variety of different capacities. She was a very active member of the Lutheran Church and volunteered countless hours to other groups such as the Thrift Shop, the 4-H Club and many others. She loved to be on the farm, which included overseeing every aspect of its operations. She took great pride in her yard and especially loved to garden. Margaret loved people and everyone was always welcome in her home and at her table whether they were family or complete strangers. She will be remembered and forever loved by all who were fortunate enough to have had her touch their lives in some way. Margaret is survived by her loving children Doug (Irlene) Hird of No Jack, Brenda (Robin) Hird and Laura (Dave) Pillage all of Edson. Margaret is also survived by one brother George Schielke of Bittern Lake as well as numerous loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Gus and Elizabeth, husband Bob Hird, brother Kelly Schielke and sister Dorothy Patterson. Everyone is welcome to join the family for a Celebration of Margaret’s Life which will be held at the Hird family farm on Saturday, August 25, 2018 from 1:30 to 4:00 with a light lunch being served. As an expression of sympathy and in loving memory of Margaret, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkland Lodge or to the Senior’s Bus in care of Foothills Memorial Chapel-Edson Funeral Home Box 6358 Edson, Alberta T7E 1T8.
