In Loving Memory
Judith Isabella Strong
September 8, 1948 ~ April 20, 2018
On April 20, 2018 our Mom took her first pain free breath of many years, in Heaven’s Garden. She was 69 years old.
Judy was born in Athabasca, Alberta to Gordon and Betty Strong in 1948. Soon to follow were siblings Neil (Lucille), Sharon (Bob), Jim, David (Diana), Jeanette (John), Allan (Anita) and Todd (Lucile). In total, Judy had 22 nieces and nephews. Judy leaves all siblings and their families behind, with the exception of Brother Neil, who passed in 2017, Dad Gordon in 2006, Nephew Jared in 2005 and Mom Betty, in 1997.
Over the years, Judy lived in Athabasca, High Prairie, Grande Cache and Hinton. She cooked for many camps and people and was very well known for her exceptional cooking and baking skills, especially her homemade bread and pies. She also drove truck hauling reject and coal in Grande Cache and then operated vac trucks in Hinton. She and her family also operated Bighorn Express for many years, offering bus services over Highway 40 between Grande Prairie and Hinton.
“Mami Jewie” will be deeply missed by her children Gregory, Angela (Gary) and Marlon. Her grandchildren Cameron (Robyn), Colton, Cassandra (Danny), Brendan and McKenna and “adopted” grandson Patrick. She also leaves behind Gary’s children and grandchildren Mike & Kerri and Jamie, Jennifer and Jacob and James & Bev. Refusing any further medical assistance was not an easy decision, but she was tired from the struggle of trying to breathe. Her regret of passing was knowing that she was going to miss watching her great-grandchildren grow. Alexi, Jaxson, Hendrix and Maxwell were her inspiration.
In keeping with Mom’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be no service at this time, but rather a family gathering in September. Thank you to everyone for the thoughts, prayers, phone calls and visits. We would like to thank Dr. Beamish for caring for her until the end, along with the staff at the University and Hinton Hospitals. Special thanks to Nurses Maureen, Kristy and Cindy and all the others who were beyond wonderful and caring. You truly are angels. Mostly, thank you to our life-long friend Patricia who has been with us through birth, life and death. Thank you for holding her hand along with us and for comforting her to the end.
As an expression of sympathy and in loving memory of Judy, memorial donations may be made to the Stollery Children’s Hospital in care of Foothills Memorial Chapel-Hinton Funeral Services P.O. Box 6358 Edson, Alberta T7E 1T8.
