June 15, 1941 – December 28, 2018

 

Mrs. Jacqueline Craven of Grande Cache, Alberta, beloved wife of Michael Craven, passed away suddenly surrounded by family on Friday, December 28, 2018 at the age of 77 years.

Jacqueline was born in the family home in Bircotes, Yorkshire, England on June 15, 1941 the third of 6 children and oldest daughter of Leonard and Violet Alice Crossland.  She met her future husband Michael Craven at the tender age 15 and he was 17. They were married on August 20, 1960 in Bircotes and remained together, deeply in love until her passing in Grande Cache.

They moved to the relative wilderness of Grande Cache, Alberta, Canada in September, 1972 with their daughters Julie and Michelle. They made many friends in Grande Cache who became like family in the close knit community . They were both part of the original group that formed the Grande Cache Otters Swim Club.

Michael’s work took them to many places including Edmonton, back to England, to Tumbler Ridge and Merritt B.C. but always returned to Grande Cache where they retired.

Jacqueline was extremely proud of her position as House Cleaning Supervisor at the University of Alberta Hospital and as Produce Manager at Save-rite and Super A Foods in Grande Cache.

In her retirement years she enjoyed Gardening, knitting, spending time with her grand and great-grand Children. She was also an avid bingo player and enjoyed bowling, darts and golf. She also enjoyed watching figure skating, curling and Cornation Street on TV. She was a lover of black licorice and listening to Abba.

Family was always important to Jacqueline and enjoyed family gatherings and was always ready for a good time and a laugh.

Jacqueline is survived by her Husband of 58 years Michael, daughter Julie Heaton (Gerald) of Cochrane, Alberta and Michelle Scott (Jim) of Grande Cache five grandchildren  Robin Scott (Allison) of Beaverlodge, Sheldon Heaton (Caitlin) of St. Albert, Nicole Dakin(Dallas) of Edmonton, Leslie Scott(Becca) of Grande Cache and Mallory Smith (Larry) of Whitecourt. Six great-grand Children Helayna Molison- Scott of Grande Cache, Abby Smith of Whitecourt, Jack Oliver-Scott of Grande Cache, Blair Scott of Horsefly B.C., Zoey Smith of Whitecourt and  Brynn Scott of Horsefly, B.C.. As well as brother Leonard Crossland, and sisters Dorothy (Dot) Lindsay and Margaret Bywater all of Yorkshire England, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

She is predeceased by her Parents Leonard and Violet Alice Crossland of Bircotes, South Yorkshire, sister Shiela Major of Yorkshire England and brother Brian Crossland of Doncaster, England and son in law James Darrell McDonald of Grande Cache, Alberta, Canada.
