Fred (Teodor) Iwanciwski passed away peacefully at home on November 8, 2019 with his loving wife, Alma by his side.
He was born on November 13,1929 in Niebylowie, Poland. When he was a baby his family immigrated to Canada and they settled in Rosevear, AB. As he was growing up he had various jobs: Coal Miner, Yard Worker at a Lumbermill...until he started as a Mechanic in his early 20’s. This was the beginning to how many came to know him.
In 1963 he joined the Edson Fire Department, where he became a beloved and well known Firefighter. Cpt. (Ret) Fred Iwanciwski was a highly decorated Firefighter, as he received his Fire Service Exemplary Service Medal from the Government of Canada for 50 years of Exemplary Service. In addition, he also received the Emergency Services Medal from the Government of Alberta for 40 years of dedicated service, and the Alberta Centennial Medal for active service during Alberta’s Centennial year.
Fred and his curling team received many trophies over the years but he also enjoyed bowling, baseball and slow pitch.
Fred was known for his generosity, wisdom, wittiness and selflessness. He was a true humanitarian who had the biggest heart. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, family, firefighter brothers and sisters and all others who’s lives he touched.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation in Fred’s memory to a charity of the donor’s choice.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at 3:00 PM at the Bethel Pentecostal Church in Edson.
