We say goodbye to Dave Unland, son of John and Edythe Unland; father of Karen (Christopher) and Jason (Janet); grandfather of Ashley (Zach), Elizabeth and Jonathan; great-grandfather of Vanessa.

He was predeceased by his parents and by his partner of many years, Donna Jones.

He was an only child, but had many loving uncles, aunts and cousins. When he was four, his parents moved to Jasper to run an outfitting business and pony barn, and he spent much of his youth on horseback. When he had a family of his own, he moved to Edson, where he was a trucker and a heavy-equipment operator.

In the end, he was the kind of man who called his kids every Sunday. “I love you, Dad,” we’d say. “I love you, too,” he’d say. Those were his last words to us. He died in his sleep before the next Sunday came.

It was his wish that no formal service take place. As an expression of sympathy and in loving memory of Dave, memorial contributions may be made to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation in care of Foothills Memorial Chapel-Edson Funeral Home Box 6358 Edson, Alberta T7E 1T8. 780-723-3575.  Whenever we see the mountains, we’ll remember him.
