Mary Williams Obituary

On Thursday, March 28, 2024, Mary Williams, passed away at home surrounded by family and friends at the age of 62 years old.

Mary leaves behind her sons, Adam (Xaverie) and Drew (Carissa) Williams; her beloved granddaughter Shay; her sister and best friend Gwen (Brent) Fellows, and her brother Sam Miner and his daughter Hailey; her niece Sherry (Quentin) French and their daughters Abby and Emily; her nephew Shaun (Nicole) Fellows and their children Keegan, Tye, Reed and Raya;  her nephew Zac (Krista) Stashko and their sons Zander and Zaxxon; and her nephew Scott (Angie) Stashko and their son Harrison. Mary also leaves behind a large community of devoted and caring friends.

Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ron, her dear sister, Judy, and her parents Emma and Jim.

Born in Mayerthorpe on January 26, 1962, Mary moved to Hinton when she was eighteen years old. When Mary met the love of her life, Ron, she made Hinton her permanent home. In Hinton, Mary made a close-knit network of friends who she enjoyed crafting and creating with over the last thirty plus years. Mary treated her friends like family and was always willing to lend a helping hand to an ongoing project, or an ear when someone needed to be listened to.

Mary devoted her life to fuelling young minds in her role as a teacher’s aid. She knew every nursery rhyme by heart. Naturally, Mary was a dedicated grandma to Shay and delighted in creating handcrafted toys and treats for her. She was a talented creative and spent countless hours making quilts, scrapbooking, baking, and trying (and excelling) at all sorts of crafts that she generously shared with those closest to her. Mary had a natural gift for nurturing her friends and family and always went the extra mile to decorate for holidays, birthdays, high school graduations, and family celebrations. Her ability to make any occasion, especially Christmas, feel special will be missed by all.

Mary's generosity and creativity knew no bounds. Her family and friends will miss enjoying a cup of black tea and catching up with her. Even seven years after her cancer diagnosis, Mary could light up the room with her smile and a witty comment. Her family knew her to be caring, patient and kind even in her final moments.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Mary's memory to the Hinton Community Cancer Centre of the Hinton Health Care Foundation; it was a place that Mary knew very well and was extremely grateful for the high quality of care provided by the staff who shepherded her through her treatment with kindness and support.

Mary's family gathered over the Easter weekend to mourn together, and a celebration of Mary’s life will be held at a later date.
