It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Leonard Miller Smith of Hinton, AB on October 31, 2017 at the age of 82 years.  He passed away at the Hinton hospital surrounded by his family after battling cancer for the last few months.

Len is survived by his children: daughter Michele (Leo) and their son Garrett; son David (Rhonda) and his sons Rory and Ryatt and his daughter Erin; daughter Alison (Brandon) and their children Colton and Shayla.

Len is also survived by his sisters: Mary (Martin) Krupa; Janet (Marc) Guimond; and Terry (Lawrence) Gamache as well as their families and by numerous other relatives and many friends.

Leonard came to Hinton from Harvey Station, NB in 1956 to work for Northwestern Pulp and Power until his retirement in 1991.  A couple of years after arriving in Hinton, he met a new nurse who came to work in Hinton’s first hospital.  Len and Eleanor married and Hinton remained their home where they worked, played and raised their family.  Len & Eleanor enjoyed wintering in AZ for many many of their retirement years.  Len has missed Eleanor dearly since her passing in 2012 and we have some comfort knowing they are together again.

Len loved his family, having a good time and his golf!  He was very compassionate and generous with a big heart and a contagious smile.  He taught us to always see the glass half full.  He accepted everyone and never had an unkind word to say about anyone.  We will miss him so very very much.

In keeping with Dad’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  A family memorial service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations if desired may be made to the Hinton Hospital Cancer Unit or a charity of your choice.
