In Loving Memory

Bruce Douglas Lowey
February 26, 1954 - June 18, 2017

Bruce, beloved husband of 40 years to Gloria, died on Father’s Day at the age of 63 years. He left his K.Q.A Ranch near Edson, Alberta, and passed away peacefully, his wife Gloria and their three beautiful daughters, Jess, Mandy and Becky, at his side. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Bruce lived most of his life in Alberta and the Yukon. He always put his family first, making him the best, most loving husband and father imaginable. He was a man of great but humble wisdom, with a wry sense of humour and a quick quip. Bruce could be the toughest man around if needed, but he had a sensitive spirit and a heart of gold. Standing six feet and six inches, he was also the tallest man around. Everyone and everything gravitated toward him – from his devoted dog Sadie to the wildest creatures – because of his gentle soul. Bruce was very creative, expressing himself through his photography, playing rock and roll and country music by ear on his Gibson guitar, and building by hand the family’s two houses at the K.Q.A. Ranch. He enjoyed many family games nights and memorable music jams with family and friends; he loved camping and hiking and playing hockey. He was active in Dreamcatchers’ 4-H Club and in the local agricultural community. He retired from TransCanada Pipelines after a 30-year-career. As a strong, young man, he was among the best at spiking rails on the Yukon’s historic White Pass railway; he worked at Bennett, which is where he met the love of his life, Gloria. Bruce did many different and amazing things during his life, but his proudest achievement is the family he and Gloria built, nurtured and cherished. Bruce is survived by his wife Gloria (Swan); his daughters Jess, Mandy and Becky; his mother Dorathy; and his brother Mark (Elona), sister Patti Toleman, and brother Grant (Susan). He was predeceased by his father, Douglas. As Bruce requested, there will be no service. As one of his favourite musicians sang: “Rock and roll can never die.” And Bruce will live forever in our hearts. People wishing to honour him and his memory are asked to donate to the Yellowhead Emergency Shelter for Women, in Hinton, Alberta.
